Joining Christ Church, Frederica
If you're a regular attender of Christ Church, Frederica and are interested in becoming a member of Christ Church or an Episcopalian, the information is below. If you have any questions, reach out to a member of the clergy for more information.
Become a member
It is very easy to be a member of Christ Church. If you attend services at Christ Church and have a baptism on record with the office, you are considered a member.
If you want to join Christ Church, speak with a member of the clergy to discuss the specifics of the process for you. We will want to be sure that we get all the pertinent information for our records, including transferring membership from a previous congregation. We can also make sure that you get plugged into mailing lists and services like the parish directory.
Membership in a church community is more than just saying we're a member, too. When joining any church, membership means a commitment to the community and its people. It assumes that we are faithful in participating in the life of the congregation by attending worship, engaging in ministry in some form, and through our financial support. God calls us into community in order to support one another and make it possible for others to join as well. We forget how powerful it is to know and be known by others. To be considered an active member, one must be active in the life of the congregation, attend more than a few times a year, and be "known to the Treasurer".
Let us know if you'd like to learn more about joining Christ Church.
Become an Episcopalian
Some of our members are not Episcopalians! Most people who have decided that this is their spiritual home also make the choice to join the Episcopal Church. The process to join is not hard. We do require participation in what we call EC101, our version of "confirmation class". All Episcopalians are confirmed by a bishop, or received by a bishop, depending on what church they are coming from. The Episcopal Church recognizes the full membership of some traditions.
After taking EC101 and discussing your calling to the Episcopal Church with one of the clergy, you will make a decision about whether or not you'd like to join the Episcopal Church. If you are ready to join, you will be included in a service of confirmation and reception when the Bishop makes his or her annual visitation. Episcopalians who are members of Christ Church are eligible to serve in certain leadership roles and to vote in parish elections.
EC 101
Episcopal Church 101 is our annual class to explore the faith and tradition of the Episcopal Church before making a decision about membership.
EC 101 is generally a six-week class during which we look at the Bible, Church History, Theology, The Book of Common Prayer, Worship, the Anglican Ethos, and Spiritual Gifts. Classes are taught by members of the clergy team and are usually a lot of fun. There are no tests, but we do have a basic text that we all read and work through together.
EC 101 classes are usually offered in the Spring, however, private study is always available as well. If you're interested in EC101 reach out to Fr. Tom.
Transfer Membership
If you are an Episcopalian who belonged to an Episcopal parish somewhere else, you would ask to have your Letter of Transfer sent to Christ Church. If you speak with someone in the office, we can help with that process as well.
